UserEvidence for Agentforce — Setup Guide

This guide walks you through setting up the Search UserEvidence Content action for use with Salesforce Agentforce. After completing these steps, your Agentforce agents will be able to search the UserEvidence content library and surface relevant customer proof — testimonials, case studies, stats, videos, and more — directly in agent conversations.

Who this guide is for: Salesforce Admins or Agentforce Developers configuring Agentforce in an org with the UserEvidence managed package installed.

Time to complete: ~10 minutes.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, confirm the following:

  • The UserEvidence for Salesforce managed package is installed and up to date.
  • The UserEvidence API key is configured in the package (via the UserEvidence Package Configuration component). If your existing UserEvidence LWC components (Content Recommendations, Library Search) are working, you're all set.
  • Agentforce is enabled in your org (Setup → Agentforce Agents → Agentforce toggle is on).
  • The UserEvidence User permission set (API name UserEvidence_User) is assigned to users who will interact with the agent. This is all the action requires — there is no need to give agent users UserEvidence Admin (userevidence), which also grants the inbound REST endpoint and full access to the package's log records.

About the Action

The Search UserEvidence Content action lets an Agentforce agent search the UserEvidence content library using natural language. When a user asks the agent for customer proof, the agent composes a search query from the conversation and calls the UserEvidence API. Results are returned with content types, titles, descriptions, and links.

What the action accepts:

  • Search Query (required) — A natural language search string. The agent composes this from the conversation context (e.g. "enterprise payroll case studies with ROI data").
  • Results Per Page (optional) — Number of results to return. Defaults to 10. 25 is the recommended ceiling; the value is passed through to UserEvidence rather than capped, so a larger number returns a longer list for the agent to summarise.
  • Page Number (optional) — For pagination. Defaults to 1.

What the action returns:

  • Content type labels (Case Study, Testimonial, Stat, Video, etc.)
  • Content titles and description text
  • Links to view each piece of content
  • Total result count

The action makes a read-only API call to UserEvidence. It does not create, update, or delete any records in Salesforce.

Note: The links the agent returns point at individual pieces of content. This is separate from the Open Deal Page button on the Customer Evidence component, which opens a page covering the whole deal. Both are expected, and the agent's per-content links are unaffected by that component.

Step 1: Register the Agent Action

This step makes the UserEvidence Apex class available as a configurable action in Agentforce.

  1. Go to Setup
  2. In the Quick Find box, type Agentforce Assets
  3. Click Agentforce Assets
  4. Click the Actions tab
  5. Click New Agent Action
  6. Set the following:
    • Reference Action Type: Apex
    • Reference Action Category: Invocable Method
    • Reference Action: Search UserEvidence Content
  7. The Agent Action Label and API Name will auto-populate. Leave these as-is.
  8. Click Next

You'll now see the action configuration screen. The instructions, inputs, and outputs are pre-filled from the Apex class.

Configure inputs:

  • Search Query — Check "Collect data from user". This tells the agent to gather the search query from the conversation.
  • Results Per Page — Leave unchecked (the default of 10 will be used).
  • Page Number — Leave unchecked (defaults to 1).

Configure outputs:

  • Content Summary — Check "Show in conversation". This is the formatted search results the agent will present to the user.
  • Error Message — Check "Show in conversation". This ensures errors are surfaced to the user.

Click Finish.

The action is now registered and available in the Agentforce Asset Library.

Step 2: Add the Action to an Agent Topic

You can add the action to an existing topic on your agent, or create a new topic dedicated to UserEvidence content searches. Both approaches are covered below.

Option A: Add to an Existing Topic

If you already have a topic where this action makes sense (e.g. "Deal Support", "Call Preparation", "Sales Enablement"):

  1. Go to Setup → Agentforce Agents
  2. Select your agent and click Open in Builder
  3. Make sure the agent is deactivated (you can't edit topics on an active agent)
  4. In the left sidebar, click on the topic you want to add the action to
  5. Click the This Topic's Actions tab
  6. Click New → Add from Asset Library
  7. Find and check Search UserEvidence Content, click Finish
  8. Add an instruction to the topic (see Step 3 below)

Option B: Create a New Topic

If you prefer a dedicated topic for UserEvidence searches:

  1. Go to Setup → Agentforce Agents
  2. Select your agent and click Open in Builder
  3. Make sure the agent is deactivated
  4. In the left sidebar, click New → New Topic
  5. Fill in the topic details:
    • Topic Label: UserEvidence Content Search
    • Classification Description: This topic handles any request related to finding customer proof content, testimonials, case studies, statistics, videos, customer stories, social proof, or reference materials from the UserEvidence content library. Use this topic when a user asks about customer evidence, proof points, or wants content for call preparation, deal follow-up, or objection handling.
    • Scope: The agent should search the UserEvidence content library and return relevant content including titles, content types, descriptions, and links.
  6. Click Next through the setup
  7. When prompted to add actions, find and add Search UserEvidence Content
  8. Click Finish

Step 3: Add Topic Instructions

Instructions tell the agent how and when to use the action. In your topic, add the following instructions (one per instruction field — click "Add Instructions" if you need more fields):

Instruction 1:

When a user asks for customer stories, case studies, testimonials, proof points, stats, videos, or any type of customer evidence, always use the Search UserEvidence Content action.

Instruction 2:

Take the user's request and compose a natural language search query from it. Pass that query to the Search UserEvidence Content action's Search Query input.

Instruction 3:

When presenting results from the Search UserEvidence Content action, always include the full content type, title, description or testimonial text, and the link for each result. Do not shorten or remove the description text from results.

Instruction 4:

If the action returns no results, let the user know and suggest they try a broader search term.

Instruction 5:

If the action returns an error, inform the user and suggest they contact their admin to check the UserEvidence API key configuration.

Feel free to adjust the wording to match your organization's tone and agent behavior.

Step 4: Activate and Test

  1. Click Activate in the upper right corner of the Agentforce Builder
  2. In the Conversation Preview panel on the right side, try prompts like:
    • "Find me customer case studies about HR software"
    • "What customer testimonials do we have for enterprise companies?"
    • "I need proof points for my call with a prospect in the payroll space"
  3. Watch the middle panel to confirm the agent selects the correct topic, invokes the Search UserEvidence Content action, and returns formatted results

Troubleshooting

The action doesn't appear in the Asset Library

  • Confirm the UserEvidence managed package is installed and up to date.
  • Confirm UserEvidence User (or UserEvidence Admin) is assigned to your user.

The agent doesn't use the action when asked about customer content

  • Check that the action is added to the topic (This Topic's Actions tab).
  • Review your topic's Classification Description — make sure it mentions the types of queries users will ask (testimonials, case studies, proof points, etc.).
  • Review your topic instructions — make sure they explicitly reference the Search UserEvidence Content action.
  • If other topics are on the agent, they may be intercepting the request. Try temporarily removing other topics to isolate the issue.

Results show "View here" links that redirect through Salesforce instead of going directly to UserEvidence

  • Go to Setup → Trusted URLs → verify that https://app.userevidence.com is listed as a trusted URL. The managed package includes this automatically, but if it was removed, re-add it manually.

Action returns "API key is not configured"

  • The UserEvidence API key needs to be set up in the UserEvidence Package Configuration component. Contact the admin who originally configured the UserEvidence managed package.

Action returns "API key is invalid or expired"

  • The API key stored in the package may need to be updated. Open the UserEvidence Package Configuration component and enter a current API key.

Example Conversations

Here are examples of how the agent responds once everything is configured:

User: "Find me case studies about enterprise payroll ROI"

Agent: "I found 10 customer case studies and testimonials about HR software. Here are some highlights:

  1. [Customer Page] Wrike Customer Proof — View here
  2. [Testimonial] Benefits of Wrike — 'When the Commercial side of our company spoke to us about the benefits of them using Wrike for a few years...' — View here
  3. [Testimonial] Less Meetings and Emails — 'Less meetings and emails.' — View here ..."

User: "My prospect is worried about ROI. Do we have any testimonials from finance leaders?"

Agent: "I found several relevant testimonials. Here are some highlights:

  1. [Testimonial] CFO Perspective on Cost Savings — 'We reduced processing time by 60% in the first quarter...' — View here
  2. [Stat] 94% of customers report faster onboarding — View here ..."
